LAKE COUNTY, IL -- A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike in Buffalo Grove, reports WGN9

The incident took place at the intersection of Weiland Road and Newton Drive. Local police were dispatched to the scene at around 7:28 a.m.

Investigators learned that the boy was traveling across the road on his bicycle, in a marked crosswalk, when he was hit by a vehicle heading northbound on Weiland Road. 

First responders transported the child by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening. 

The driver, a 66-year-old resident of Wheeling, stayed behind and cooperated with an investigation, which remains ongoing. As of this writing, no pending charges have been reported.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department's traffic unit and the Major Crash Assistance Team are handling the case.
