CHICAGO, IL -- A man died Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Chicago's West Garfield Park neighborhood, reports WGN9

The fatal incident took place in the 500 block of South Independence Boulevard. Chicago Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 8:20 p.m.

An investigation remains underway, but officers arrived to find the victim, believed to be between 45 and 55 years of age, suffering from serious injuries consistent with a pedestrian crash.

Officials confirmed the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The CPD noted that the driver fled the scene without stopping and rendering aid to the victim, who was found outside of a marked crosswalk.
