CHICAGO, IL -- One person was critically injured late Wednesday when they were shot and then run over by a car on Chicago's South Side, according to CBS News Chicago

Chicago Police said the incident occurred at the intersection of West 87th Street and South State Street, in the Chatham neighborhood. 

The circumstances of the event remain unclear, but the victim was rushed to a local hospital where they were listed in critical condition. 

Responding officers had the nearby Shell gas station cordoned off in the immediate aftermath. 

At this time, the suspect has not been located, and no identifying information has been released to the public. An investigation remains underway.
