LAKE COUNTY, IL -- An 18-year-old woman died Saturday morning after being struck by a car following a two-vehicle crash in Grayslake, reports NBC Chicago

The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Washington Street and Atkinson Road, near Mill Creek Park, at around 10:12 a.m. Grayslake Police and Fire Department crews responded to the scene shortly after.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford Escape and a Ford F-350 pickup truck were involved in a crash at the intersection, which caused one of the vehicles to strike the teen pedestrian.

The victim was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries, confirmed the coroner's office. An autopsy that was conducted on Monday determined her cause of death to be blunt force injuries suffered during the crash. She has since been identified as Victoria Piela, a Grayslake resident and recent graduate of Grayslake Central High School.

The Grayslake Police Department and the Major Crash Assistance Team continues to investigate the accident. No pending charges have been reported as of this writing.
